About Me

I am a sometimes-writer, everyday mama, creative failure and experimental cook. I am interested in living a beautiful life, spending time with my family and making things that I can feel proud of. When I'm by myself I'm usually outside. Don't bother calling because chances are that I didn't bring my cell phone because I couldn't find it. If you see me walking, it's because I lost my keys and if you see me with only one child... I'm probably in big trouble.

Picture of the day #6

My parents are having friends over for dinner tonight (think mahi mahi, grilled salmon, sauteed spinach and risotto) and I wanted to get the kids out of the house for a little while to give my parents some space to prepare for company.

I wanted to go to the beach, but my girls were waterlogged and wanted to do something else.  I decided to pamper them with pedicures (something that is a rare luxury in my life) and then take them for lunch and to their favorite shop in downtown Naples for a souvenier.

I went online to find a nail salon in the area and found one right in downtown, within a few blocks from everywhere else that we wanted to go!  Score!  I made appointments, went to the gym, did a great workout, came home, showered and off we went.

The girls have never had a proper pedicure before.  Usually when we go they just clip their toe nails and polish them.  But this time they got the full pedi with soaking the feet, massaging and all of the rest of the whistles and bells.  The pedicures were good.  We were the only people in there and got lots of attention and felt very pampered.  Everyone was so friendly. It was a really luxurious experience...

...until it was time to pay.

Now, back home, we can get a manicure and pedicure for $25.  If you want extra things (like french or designs) it's an extra $5.

And these are city prices.

I thought that Naples might be pricey because it's a wealthier area, but...

Jesus Mary and Joseph, I'll be damned if I didn't pay $180 for 3 pedicures.

I paid.

And then I cried.

And then I cried some more.

What a stupid waste of money.

What made it so much worse was that Lila's was immediately ruined when we went to eat lunch and she crawled into the booth and scraped the polish entirely off of one of her big toes.

Here are a few pictures from the day!

This is a picture of the girls, eating a huge and wonderful plate of Sushi.  Bunny tried eel for the first time today and loved it.

This shop cat lives in a store called The Wind and The Willows.  Holy smokes, he's the cutest cat ever.
